Temple Oil Claim

Notice

Is hereby given that the undersigned parties have this day, the 20th of May A.D. 1874, taken up eight claims of one thousand feet square each on this asphaltum, bitumen, naptha or petroleum lead, herein called the "Temple Lead," and that they claim all the asphaltum, bitumen, naptha and petroleum leads, springs and deposits within the limits of said claims; and all the lands for mining purposes therein contained, and that they intend to work the same according to the laws of the San Fernando Petroleum Mining District, and also comply with the requirements of the mining act of Congress, approved May 10th 1872.

Said claims are situated on the northern slope of the San Fernando Range of mountains. Commencing at the point on the western boundary of the Wiley & Towsley oil claim, about fifty feet north westerly direction from an old chimney, from thence north one thousand feet to a point. Thence west four thousand feet to a point. Thence south two thousand feet to a point. Thence east four thousand feet to a point. Thence north one thousand feet to the place of beginning, making eight claims.

Whereas the above named parties did on the 20th day of May A.D. 1874 make application to me the undersigned Recorder of the aforesaid District to be placed in possession of the mining property described in the foregoing notice; and I have proceeded to the above described premises and finding the same not to be upon private property, vacant and subject to location, did place the said parties on the 20th day of May A.D. 1874, in quiet and peaceable possession of said premises.
