Golden Spike 150 year Celebration near Lang Station

On September 5, 2026, a ceremony was held celebrating the 150th anniversary of the driving of the golden spike in the final railroad track section connecting Los Angeles to San Francisco. That happened on September 5, 1876, at Lang Station and was a big deal for Los Angeles in 1876. This ceremony was held on Lang Station Road just east of the railroad tracks. Here are some photos.

Many people showed up including representatives of the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society, the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California, and the local government. Current landowners of the Lang area also supported the ceremony by allowing the use of their property for parking and a safe location for the ceremony.

The main speaker was Dr. Alan Pollack, the president of the SCVHS, here at the podium. Other speakers included the one-time president of the Chinese Historical Society, Eugene Moy. He was actually at the 1976 100th golden spike celebration. Since the Chinese played such an important role in building the railroad, his speech was very appropriate and appreciated.

The model of Lang Station, normally in the train station at the SCV History Center, made a special appearance.

Although no historical trains were available, the Amtrak made an appearance as it made it way south.

After all the speeches were given, anyone in the crowd could try their hand at driving a provided spike and hammer into a setup track section.
