Sterling Borax Underground Mine Plan

Close up of mill area from Sheet 1 of the Plat of the Claims of the Sterling Borax Company, Mineral Survey A & B. L.A. County Records for T5N R14W. Surveyed from June 4, 1917, to July 28, 1917. This shows a rather extensive underground network of tunnels on both sides of the Tick Canyon creek mainly in the southeast part of the Bellflower claim just above the Bellflower Mill Site claim. Some of the tunnels extend into the southwest part of the Bellmont claim. Complete version of plat map here (pdf)..

Blueprint of the underground of the Sterling Borax mine. Date unknown although based on the number of tunnels, it must be earlier than the above plat map. View from above and a cross section. I saw this somewhat worn out blueprint while I was in Death Valley in 2017 looking through the U.S. Borax Collection. A staff member there scanned it for me. (U.S. Borax Collection, Catalog Number DEVA 53644, National Park Service, Death Valley National Park). Larger size here.

The blueprint scan was also converted to this easier to read version. Larger size here.
